Corelis Extends JTAG Embedded Testing to Freescale i.MX51

JTAG functional test solution for i.MX51 applications processors increases test coverage

Cerritos, CA, November 15, 2011 – Corelis, Inc., the leading supplier of high-performance JTAG test and measurement tools, announced today ScanExpress JET™ support for all members of the Freescale i.MX51 family of applications processors. ScanExpress JTAG Embedded Test (JET) provides at-speed testing of embedded processor-based electronic printed circuit boards and systems to detect, isolate, and diagnose structural and functional defects with minimal development and investment.

ScanExpress JET controls the i.MX51’s ARM Cortex™-A8 core through the JTAG debug port, enabling development and execution of binary and script test steps using a graphical user interface on the host PC. Benefits of using ScanExpress JET for i.MX51 applications processors include:

  • Standardized interface tests for SDRAM memory, I2C, Ethernet, PMIC, and UART

  • Fast in-system programming and testing of parallel and serial NOR and NAND Flash

  • Fully automatic test development for all supported peripherals

  • Integrated scripting environment for test customization

  • No boot code requirement for test execution

Freescale i.MX51 applications processors offer low power, efficient multimedia processing and are targeted at consumer, industrial, automotive, and general embedded applications, representing an ideal platform for ScanExpress JET. “Systems built around the i.MX51 are often designed to fit a particular form factor and need to be highly reliable,” explains Ryan Jones, Senior Technical Marketing Engineer at Corelis. “These constraints contribute to the need for automated non-intrusive, at-speed functional tests. ScanExpress JET offers significant functional test coverage with minimal impact on the system design—a simple JTAG connection offers complete control over the CPU allowing convenient and reusable tests for development and production.”

Corelis Offers Integrated JTAG Solution with National Instruments

High Speed Digital I/O Platform Doubles as a JTAG Controller.

Jump to National Instruments Partner Page

Cerritos, CA, August 23, 2011 – Corelis, Inc. today announced support for National Instruments High Speed Digital I/O (HSDIO) instruments with Corelis’ ScanExpress suite of high-performance JTAG test and measurement tools. The marriage of National Instruments hardware with Corelis software provides a seamless path for deploying boundary-scan test and programming capabilities on existing PCI, PXI, and PXIe test platforms.

Boundary-scan integration support is provided for National Instruments 655x series HSDIO instruments, including the new PXIe-6556 model. In addition to functioning as a digital waveform generator/analyzer for characterizing, validating, and testing digital electronics, integration with ScanExpress tools enables these cards to connect to and control a circuit board’s JTAG Test Access Port at voltages as low as 1.2V with test clock speeds up to 30MHz. The ScanExpress software allows users to select NI 655x series cards through the native GUI interface or alternatively by using LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and TestStand with a DLL-based API interface.

“Our customers continue to gain awareness of the value offered by deploying boundary-scan technology earlier in the product design cycle—both as a means to increase efficiency and to improve the bottom line,” states Ryan Jones, Senior Technical Marketing Engineer at Corelis. “Adding National Instruments hardware product support to Corelis software aligns well with this movement; NI products are already used extensively in the design, development, and test environments. The comfort, convenience, and peace of mind in using familiar equipment help engineers reduce the learning curve when employing JTAG test.”

Corelis JET Amplifies QSC Audio Products Production Test

Corelis JTAG Embedded Test (JET) reduces test time, adds non-intrusive functional test.

 Jump to Success Story

Cerritos, CA, May 9, 2011 – Corelis, Inc., a leading supplier of high-performance JTAG test and measurement tools, announced today the successful integration and deployment of the ScanExpress JTAG Embedded Test (JET) functional test system at the production facilities of QSC Audio Products, LLC in Costa Mesa, California. QSC, a leader and pioneer in professional audio products for over four decades, implemented Corelis ScanExpress JET alongside ScanExpress boundary-scan tools to increase Flash programming rates and total test coverage during manufacturing.

QSC’s Q-Sys™ Integrated System Platform was selected as the initial target platform for ScanExpress JET deployment. Q-Sys is a complete routing, processing, and control solution for large scale applications built around the Q-Sys Core—a centralized processor responsible for managing audio processing and control functions. Rising demand for Q-Sys production led QSC to a point where test and programming times became an increasing bottleneck.

“QSC had been successfully using Corelis boundary-scan test systems in production for almost a decade now,” explains Corelis Senior Technical Marketing Engineer, Ryan Jones. “Integration with JET offered the next logical step to reduce their test time and meet their growing production requirements. It demonstrates our software’s ability to grow alongside our customers.”

Corelis applications engineers were quickly able to implement JET technology in QSC’s Q-Sys test process. QSC Digital Test Engineer, Jose Gutierrez comments, “As far as product support goes, Corelis gets a 1000%. We were quite pleased with the ease of JET integration. Corelis technical support really went out of their way to offer assistance with getting things up and running.”

Combined with QSC’s boundary-scan tests, JET added blazingly fast ISP as well as at-speed RAM tests. According to Gutierrez, “Test time per unit was reduced from 10 minutes just for programming the Flash down to around 2 minutes. This was exactly the solution we needed.”
